Carnew is a Retained Station as is all the stations in County Wicklow. What Retained means is that the crew are on call by means of an alerter/pager. So when there is a call, the 999 call first goes through a central control room in Tara Street, Dublin called the Regional Control Centre (RCC) They then set off our alerters/pagers. The crew then make their way safely to the Fire Station. Then on arrival at the Station we will have a printout of the call giving us the location and the type of incident we are going to attend. Bray Fire Station is the Headquarters for the county and is also the main training centre. Link to Wicklow Council Council Fire Services Website Bray fire station is where new personnel do their recruit training,
and all other courses that is involved in becoming a Fire-Fighter.
Bray also has the countys B.A. Training Facility where fire crew do B.A. initial training and B.A. refresher training Other courses run there include : R.T.C., Pump Operators, First Aid, First Responder, Hot Container Training etc.. There are 10 Fire Stations throughout County Wicklow . At present there are 99 fire-fighters between the 10 stations in the County.
