We have been serving the local Community of Carnew and the surrounding area for Over 50 years.

We are available for emergency calls 24 hours a day , 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We Cover an area from the borders of Tullow, Co.Carlow To Ballyellis, Co.Wexford.

We meet once a week of a Thursday night for two hours from 7-9pm for

Training and for updates on procedures we follow.( S.O.G.)

Carnew Fire Station is a one bay station and has a good size drill yard at the back.

The station has an upstairs lecture room , Spare kit storage area, and our kit drying room.

Downstairs it has our Muster area , S.O.Office , and Ladies and Gents toilets and shower area.

Carnew Fire Station was build in 2002, replacing several different part time locations.

The station is Located in the I.D.A. Industrial unit at the top of Carnew village.

There Are Nine Retained Fire Crew Members In Carnew Fire Brigade.

Gerry Attented His Interview For The Post As A Fireman To Carnew Fire Brigade On The 3rd March 1988

Gerry Was Accepted To The Post On The 20th October 1988, And Started On Active Duty Early In 1989

And Was Made Station Officer On The 17th February 1997

Some Of The Types Of Incidents We Deal With:

Domestic Fires, Chimney Fires, Car Fires, Industrial Fires, Farm Yard Fires,

Road Traffic Collisions ( R.T.C.), Floods, Chemical Spill Incidents,

Humanitarian, Ambulance Assist  etc..

Training Nights

We Train once a week of a Thursday night from 7pm-9pm

on these nights we do Training Drills such as :

R.T.C. Training

Hazmat Training

Pump Drills, Ladder Drills , First Aid Drills, Combination Drills First Responder Drills, Breathing Apparatus Drills, Road Traffic Collision Drills. (R.T.C.)

We also recreate Incidents that we will possibly come across and we act on them accordingly.

We also carry out regular familiarity visits to local bussinesses, factories and schools etc.

Local people would also have seen us regularly checking water hydrants in our area

to ensure good water pressure when needed.

Carnew is a Retained Station as is all the stations in County Wicklow.

What Retained means is that the crew are on call by means of an alerter/pager.

So when there is a call, the 999 call first goes through a central control room

in Tara Street, Dublin called the Regional Control Centre (RCC)

They then set off our alerters/pagers.

The crew then make their way safely to the Fire Station.

Then on  arrival at the Station we will have a printout of the call giving

us the location and the type of incident we are going to attend.

Bray Fire Station is the Headquarters for the county and is also the main training centre.

Bray fire station is where new personnel do their recruit training,

and all other courses that is involved in becoming a Fire-Fighter.

Bray also has the countys B.A. training Facility

where fire crew do B.A. initial training and B.A. refresher training

Other courses run there include :

R.T.C., Pump Operators, First Aid, First Responder, Hot Container Training etc..

There are 10 Fire Stations throughout County Wicklow .

At present there are 99 fire-fighters between the 10 stations in the County.
